Lesson 1 of 6 · 26 min
Telling yourself the truth
Naming the thing plainly, without minimizing it or explaining it away.
Background for this lesson
Addiction survives on management language. It is a phase, it is stress, it is not as bad as what other people do. Every one of those sentences buys the behavior more time, and time is the one thing it needs most.
The Psalms model something different. David describes the physical weight of keeping silent — bones wasting away, strength drained — and then the relief that came the moment he stopped hiding. Naming a thing is not the end of recovery, but nothing begins before it.
This first lesson asks for one honest sentence, said out loud, without the qualifiers attached.
